Quirky。 Fun。 This book was okay, but then I'm not the intended audience。 Finn dies and has to sort things out before he's ready to move on。 Part detective book, part commentary on death and regrets。 Will Finn find his killer or find enough closure to stop being a ghost? Or will he dwell on the fact that his death wasn't supposed to happen and just regret the chances he didn't take? What happens when your friends "move on"? DNF at 30%。 I’ve been holding off on reviewing this until I got my thoughts right about it… It just wasn’t the book for me。 It had a spark of interest, then it just flatlined a bit too much for me。 Now… just because this is my rating DOES NOT MEAN I find it to be a horrible book or that I find the writing to be horrible or anything like that。 It just wasn’t FOR ME。 It may DEFINITELY be for someone else and I hope that others enjoy it。 I, unfortunately, wasn’t able to。

So, I've read some James Patterson, so I know what to expect。 Funny middle-schoolers going through very realistic middle school stuff。 So, as the main character is biking in the first chapter, even when he thinks someone is following him and possibly forcing him off the road, I know everything is going to be okay。 Only it's not! He plunges to his death in the first chapter! He is a ghost or spirit for the rest of the book。 Who killed him? Was it deliberate? Did this person just want to kill any So, I've read some James Patterson, so I know what to expect。 Funny middle-schoolers going through very realistic middle school stuff。 So, as the main character is biking in the first chapter, even when he thinks someone is following him and possibly forcing him off the road, I know everything is going to be okay。 Only it's not! The book was good and a fast read, but not what I was hoping for。 My library had the “humor/fiction” label on it。 This book isn’t funny。 It’s not light。 It’s a fast read and I mostly enjoyed it, but the book follows two kids who are ghosts and died tragically。 So not funny at all。

I’d never thought that I would be giving four stars to a James Patterson and Chris Grabenstein book on Goodreads。 It’s a brilliant book and I can imagine kids being entertained by it。 Finn Mcallister, the protagonist, dies at the very beginning of the story。 He refuses to go with his grandpa’s spirit, who wants to guide him to the afterlife。 But what business does Finn have on earth if he’s dead? Read the book and you’ll find out。

I did not love this one, would probably give it 2 1/2 stars。 Especially annoyed at the ending。

Not a good choice。 Felt rushed and story poorly developed。

Interesting view of a 13 yr old as the ghost of himself choosing to embrace the life he never noticed and his journey in his final hours。 Well crafted story as the reader feels the same questions the main character does。 We cheer for every character。

I really liked this story。

An new read by the man the myth himself, James Patterson! This book represents new theories for what happens when you die, but presented in a less sad, more kid-friendly way。With many interesting parts, characters, theories, mysteries, rumors, conflict and more! This is a good book for binge reading。Overall, a very, very good book and one of the best by Jimmy so far, I give it。。。 An 8/10!

“I don’t take risks。 Risks are scary。”Finn’s parents are very safety conscience 。。。 maybe too much so。 Maybe that’s why Finn panicked and went over the edge on his bicycle when the noisy truck came up behind him。 So was it the crazy driver in the black demon van that killed him? Or his own fear? Whatever the reason, Finn can’t move on to the next place until he finds out the truth。

Xavier gobbled it up in a day or so and told me I had to read it。

I would say 3。5 for this one。 There were some great lessons to be learned, even though it’s a bit unrealistic。 Great for grades 4-6, where kids will relate to the situational friendships。

My younger kiddo and I enjoyed listening to this fun middle-grade novel that explores the possibilities and lessons learned if you get a chance at an afterlife to visit those you left behind。 With the added intrigue of mystery and the bonus of an unexpected new friendship, the short chapters and fast pace made this an easy read and perfect for the summer。Would have been a 4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ except we were not fans of the unnecessary epilogue, so we bumped it down to a 3。5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫。TW: grief, death

I found the plot intriguing but slightly juvenile (yes I know it's a juvenile book) I feel like the main characters were smart enough to have gone about investing their deaths better than what the authors wrote。 I also feel like there was connections missing between the characters。 It could have been a bit deeper with a bit of twerking on the writers end。 Keep in mind this is my first James Patterson。 I also 150% hated the epilogue。 It was totally unnecessary and cheapened the story in my opinio I found the plot intriguing but slightly juvenile (yes I know it's a juvenile book) I feel like the main characters were smart enough to have gone about investing their deaths better than what the authors wrote。 I also feel like there was connections missing between the characters。 It could have been a bit deeper with a bit of twerking on the writers end。 Keep in mind this is my first James Patterson。 I also 150% hated the epilogue。 It was totally unnecessary and cheapened the story in my opinion。 。。。more

I love reading with my daughter, Eve! The awe inspiring way she looks at things and the way she understands everything on face value but yet asks questions to get deeper meanings is fascinating。 I try, because I am not perfect, to read every night with her for a chapter or two and thankfully she holds me to it。 I am so proud of her and her ability to read, understand and learn。 In Best Nerds Forever by James Patterson and Chris Grabenstein, we find the unlikeliest of protagonists, ghost children I love reading with my daughter, Eve! We had a chance to reflect on what the story meant, what it means when someone passes on and what pieces are left to pick-up when someone dies unexpectedly。 We both cried and more importantly we both grew a little。 Like I said, I love reading with Eve。 I hope that if you have gotten this far in this post you take these words to heart, in the crazy violent world we live in take the time to spend some time with your little ones and read, you will be amazed at what you get out of it! As always, enjoy the read! 。。。more

When the main character in the book dies in the first chapter, it has got to get better after that。

Decent book。 Abrupt ending that could have been done a little bit better。

For middle school books, I'm a fan of both James Patterson and Chris Grabenstein and this book does not disappoint。 Being familiar with Mr。 Lemoncello, I was expecting something a bit more laugh-out-loud humor, but instead, it was more melancholy in nature, although moments of humor definitely were present (for example when he discovered that his best friend actually wore a *gasp* bra!)。 The main message of this book had to do with not being afraid of life, about taking risks sometimes (no, not For middle school books, I'm a fan of both James Patterson and Chris Grabenstein and this book does not disappoint。 Being familiar with Mr。 Lemoncello, I was expecting something a bit more laugh-out-loud humor, but instead, it was more melancholy in nature, although moments of humor definitely were present (for example when he discovered that his best friend actually wore a *gasp* bra!)。 The main message of this book had to do with not being afraid of life, about taking risks sometimes (no, not stupid risks), and living life to the fullest or you end up as a ghost, full of regrets。 There was a message in there about helicopter parenting too, although that was probably a message more to the parents who might read this book than to the middle school audience this book is meant for。 There was one moment with Finn's dad and the gaming system that absolutely tore my heart out。 But I feel like the ending was a bit too rushed and it didn't really resolve anything for the ones left behind (particularly Finn's parents)。 I would have loved it if the messages of these books were more obviously relayed to his friends and family somehow so that when he and Isabella finally left, they could leave knowing they left those behind better off。 It just didn't feel completely resolved for me。 That said, I really enjoyed this story and I hope the two of them will team up again in the future。 。。。more

My rating's not really fair since this was a kids' book, but true to me (2。8) - I would have rated more highly if the post-story ending chapter had been left off 。 。 。 spoiled the depth of the tale and discounted kids' ability to manage the deaths of the characters。 My rating's not really fair since this was a kids' book, but true to me (2。8) - I would have rated more highly if the post-story ending chapter had been left off 。 。 。 spoiled the depth of the tale and discounted kids' ability to manage the deaths of the characters。 。。。more

This was sad and touching, but still a bit cute。 That ending was a tad annoying though。 Should’ve just let the story flow the way it was going。 3。5 stars, actually。
